LIFEMASTERS RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE BY DISEASE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA

- DMAA Awards the 2000 Full Service Disease Management Vendor Leadership Award to LifeMasters -

IRVINE, Calif. (November 16, 2000) - LifeMasters®, a leading provider of interactive disease management services, announced today that it has been selected by the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) as the recipient of the 2000 Full Service Disease Management Vendor Leadership Award. The announcement was made at the 2nd Annual Disease Management Leadership Forum in Baltimore, Md., a DMAA-sponsored industry event. DMAA is a non-profit, voluntary membership organization, which represents all aspects of the disease management community.

"LifeMasters is honored to have been named by the DMAA’s Recognizing Excellence Awards Selection Committee for this important distinction," said Christobel E. Selecky, CEO of LifeMasters. "We accept this industry award as an indication of LifeMasters’ role in shaping the disease management industry, as well as our reputation for innovation, quality and verifiable, improved clinical outcomes."

LifeMasters was selected to receive the 2000 Full Service Disease Management Vendor Leadership Award based on criterion including the vendor’s ability to demonstrate a commitment to quality disease management programs and its willingness to take risks in the industry. LifeMasters was recognized for initiatives such as the intervention program it rolled out to Chinese Community Health Plan this year. The program, which serves Cantonese, Mandarin and Chinese-speaking patients is the first health management program to cover four disease states (congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes), and is also the first available in three languages. LifeMasters was also recognized for its recent contract with the State of Florida’s Medicaid program, one of the most progressive population-based programs for congestive heart failure in the nation.

Wesley E. Harrington, Executive Director of the DMAA, said "LifeMasters is leading innovation in disease management, by bringing its customers unique solutions, and providing them with better care, at lowered costs."

The LifeMasters’ formula for successful disease management combines interactive monitoring and nurse support to deliver individualized care that provides patients with information about their conditions, enables them to proactively manage their health and helps them to live healthier, more active lives.

In other news announced this week, results of the 2000 Health Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS) measurements for Massachusetts-based Fallon Community Health Plan’s nearly 7,000 diabetes patients enrolled in the LifeMasters program show significant improvement of clinical outcomes versus 1999 pre-intervention figures.

Other recent announcements include the election of LifeMasters CEO, Christobel E. Selecky to the DMAA board, and her appointment as chair of the association’s Governmental Affairs and Health Policy Committee.
