LifeMasters Enhances Speed and Effectiveness of Interventions
-- Partnership with RHI More Rapidly Brings Claims, Other Data into LifeMasters Disease Management Program --
CHICAGO, Ill. NMHCC Disease Management Congress (September 17, 2002) -- LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc. announced today that it has partnered with Resolution Health, Inc. (RHI), a leading health information technology and analysis company, to expand the disease-management company's industry lead in leveraging technology to provide superior care for its participants and increased cost savings for its health plan customers.
Through the partnership, LifeMasters is: · enhancing the accuracy and speed with which it identifies and targets participants for intervention in its disease-management programs; · aggregating data from a greater number of sources to enhance and expand the real-time, actionable clinical data it provides to physicians and LifeMasters disease management staff; · providing more comprehensive clinical and quality data to health plan customers.
"We at LifeMasters have always believed that the intelligent use of information technology will re-connect all of the participants in our currently fragmented healthcare system. By aggregating and analyzing data from multiple sources, we can identify trends and gaps in the care of chronically ill patients and provide their physicians and our disease management counselors with real-time, actionable information to enhance the quality of care," said LifeMasters CEO Christobel E. Selecky. "RHI's data analysis engine is a perfect complement to the technology platform which LifeMasters has built over the past six years. The comprehensive, population-based clinical information we will receive from the continuous analysis of claims data will augment the biometric and psychosocial information we receive from our ongoing interaction with our members and result in a much more comprehensive understanding of how we can facilitate adherence to their physician's care plan."
Through this partnership, all participants with diabetes will be continuously analyzed for quality of care indicators applicable to diabetes and other chronic diseases the participant may have. For example, all participants will have claims data added to the other information in his LifeMasters-maintained member record, such as daily member-reported vital statistics, intervention records and other important data. The claims data may indicate that the participant has not scheduled a screening for proteinurea within the last year, or that he has received a dosage of his medication considered inappropriate when other factors in the LifeMasters-maintained member record are considered. As a result, an alert will immediately be generated to a LifeMasters health professional. The health professional would verify with the member that the test had not occurred and, if necessary, will prompt the participant's physician or LifeMasters nurse to intervene, heading off a potential hospitalization.
"Knowledge about best clinical practices has gotten substantially out in front of clinicians putting that knowledge into practice. Information and decision support systems can help physicians and nurses apply scientific advances to patient care. That type of infrastructure is needed to achieve the potential of population-based health and disease management," said Dr. Earl Steinberg, CEO of Resolution Health Inc. "Coupling our technology and data analysis expertise with LifeMasters' proven disease management programs will provide people suffering from chronic diseases with more effective and more personalized care, benefiting LifeMasters' participants, health plans and physicians."
