LifeMasters Wins Two Prestigious Industry Awards at
Disease Management Association of America's
Annual Leadership Conference

LifeMasters Honored with Comprehensive Disease Management Company Leadership and Executive Chairman Selecky Wins Individual Leadership Award

Irvine, Calif. (October 25, 2004) - LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc., a national leader in disease management, won two prestigious industry awards which were presented last week at the Sixth Annual Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) Leadership Forum in Orlando, Florida. LifeMasters was awarded the Comprehensive Disease Management Company Leadership Award and Executive Chairman Christobel E. Selecky was honored with the Karen Coughlin Individual Disease Management Leadership Award for 2004. The DMAA awards are designed to recognize a unique level of exceptional leadership and innovation in the disease management industry.

Chosen by an external review committee, LifeMasters was honored for the second time for its industry-leading, comprehensive platform of integrated health management tools, services and programs to assist health plans in providing better patient care while reducing costs. Disease management companies become eligible for the award by demonstrating the ability to design, develop, implement and operate a broad platform of health management programs to serve patients, healthcare providers and payors.

The key criteria used to evaluate companies for the Comprehensive Leadership Award were:
  • Vision/Leadership - willingness to take risks and lead the industry.

  • Impact - Demonstrates impact of its leadership in advancing the "state of the industry"

  • Innovation - Demonstrates success in employing "science" and innovation in the design and implementation of disease management programs

  • Outcomes-based Orientation - evidence of a thoughtful and systematic approach to measuring program performance

LifeMasters Executive Chairman Christobel E. Selecky was recognized by the DMAA as an individual who has pioneered the concept of disease management and demonstrated strong leadership and a consistent voice for the industry. Selecky was selected to win the Individual Leadership Award based on four key criteria:
  • Leadership - Willingness to take risks, lead the industry and share knowledge with peers.

  • Long-Term Commitment - Demonstrates history of commitment to shaping and advancing the industry over time

  • Vision - Leads the industry by taking clear positions, standing up for beliefs and facilitating innovation

  • Impact - Demonstrates influence on the industry

"I am doubly honored to accept both awards from the DMAA for LifeMasters, and it is a tremendous source of pride to be recognized by our colleagues in the disease management community," said Christobel Selecky, Executive Chairman of LifeMasters. "This achievement will be shared by all of our employees as a testament to their dedication and commitment to improving the health and quality of life of individuals across the nation over the company's ten-year history."

For more than twenty years, Selecky has held leadership positions in the health care industry and since 1996, she has been leading and growing LifeMasters into one the largest disease management companies in the nation. Ms. Selecky has held industry leadership positions with the DMAA since 1999. Ms. Selecky has served on the organization's Board of Directors and in a variety of roles including president-elect (2004), secretary (2002) and as chairman of the association's government affairs committee for the past four years. Highlights of Ms. Selecky's tenure in that role include testimony before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's sub-committee regarding the success of disease management among Medicaid recipients and in advocacy efforts to include disease management into the fee for service Medicare population through the Medicare Modernization and Prescription Drug Act signed into law in December of 2003. Subsequent to the passage of the bill, Ms. Selecky testified before the Health Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee on the implementation of the Chronic Care Improvement Program, and has also led the industry responses to requests from CMS for input into the development process.

"Christobel Selecky and LifeMasters are constantly raising the performance bar for our entire industry," said Warren Todd, Executive Director of the DMAA. "The industry has evolved to the level it is today in large part because of the leadership of unique individuals like Ms. Selecky and committed exceptional member companies like LifeMasters."
