LIFEMASTERS APPOINTS WILLIAM C. POPIK, M.D. AS CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER San Francisco, Calif., February 6, 2007 – LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc., a leading provider of disease management programs and services, today announced the appointment of William C. Popik, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Popik will be responsible for all of Lifemasters’ clinical programs and activities, including product design, delivery, and evaluation. His primary external focus will be on the individuals who are eligible to use LifeMasters’ services, ensuring that they fully utilize the LifeMasters product offerings, and that those offerings result in better health outcomes. “Dr. Popik brings with him a rich combination of medical knowledge and business acumen,” said David R. Strand, LifeMasters president and chief executive officer. “His experience in the development of medical programs and population health improvement will contribute significantly to the company as we continue to grow. And, with his leadership and valuable insight we will continue to serve the needs of participants and clients.” Dr. Popik brings to LifeMasters more than 34 years of experience as a practicing physician and senior healthcare executive. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA). Previously, Dr. Popik served as chief medical officer at Aetna, Inc. in Hartford, Ct., where he was part of the senior team that was responsible for the successful financial turnaround of the company. In this role, he was also responsible for medical policy and quality, as well as the development of innovative medical programs that helped improve the quality of care and manage medical costs. Prior to Aetna, he served as senior vice president and national medical director at CIGNA Healthcare (Bloomfield, CT), where he developed the company’s first disease management programs for asthma, diabetes and low back pain, and introduced a 24-hour health information line for members. Dr. Popik also held positions at Health Net of California as vice president and chief medical officer, and QualMed for Health (Oakland, Calif.) as vice president of Medical Affairs. “I am thrilled to be joining the LifeMasters team,” said Dr. Popik. “LifeMasters is a perfect fit for me, because we both believe that our roles in health care are to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.” Dr. Popik received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and his bachelor’s degree from Yale University in New Haven, Ct.
