Christobel E. Selecky
President and Chief Executive Officer
Christobel E. Selecky serves as President and CEO of LifeMasters. Ms. Selecky joined LifeMasters as president and CEO in 1996, when LifeMasters had only three employees, no revenues, no customers and limited funding. She has also served as Executive Chair from 2004 to 2008. In addition to growing LifeMasters, Ms. Selecky has been instrumental in driving the growth of the disease management industry through her leadership role with the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA). Ms. Selecky is the chairperson of the DMAA's Strategic Planning Committee and serves on the board of the Health Industry Forum. In addition, she has served on the Robert Wood Johnson National Advisory Committee on eHealth Technologies and as an external liaison to the Science Panel on Interactive Communication and Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.>
An outspoken advocate of disease management, Ms. Selecky is regularly called upon to provide commentary and insight into trends, issues, and news affecting the disease management and healthcare industries. Ms. Selecky has led the industry's advocacy and lobbying efforts for the past four years. Ms. Selecky has testified before several legislative bodies, including the Subcommittees on Health of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee of the United States Congress; work that ultimately led to inclusion of Disease Management in the Medicare Modernization and Prescription Drug Act, which was signed into law in December of 2003.
As an industry ambassador, Ms. Selecky has continually managed to raise the bar by which others judge the disease management category. She is a thought leader and has been quoted in influential national business media including The Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, and Bloomberg as well as in industry trade publications including Managed Healthcare Executive, Modern Healthcare, Healthcare Informatics, Healthplan, and Disease Management News. Ms. Selecky also maintains a rigorous schedule of speaking engagements and has lectured across the country and overseas about issues that significantly impact the disease management and healthcare communities.
Named by Managed Healthcare Executive as one of the Top 25 Disease Management Executives in the nation and by California's OC Metro Magazine as one of "Ten Orange County Women Making a Difference," Ms. Selecky has taken on entrepreneurial challenges throughout her twenty-three years in the healthcare industry. A veteran in the field of managed healthcare, Ms. Selecky began her healthcare career in the young and as-yet unproven HMO industry, where she started working for FHP International Corporation in the early 1980s when it was an entrepreneurial, privately held, staff-model HMO. For fifteen years, she served in a variety of senior management positions culminating in her role as president of its FHP/TakeCare California health plan, where she was responsible for statewide expansion and management of more than $2 billion in revenues and nearly one million HMO and PPO members.
Ms. Selecky received her MA in Mass Communications from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse (New York) University, and received a double BA in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Delaware.
