LifeMasters Chosen by Roche Diagnostics to Develop Technology Based Tool for Diabetes Management
LifeMasters' Partners with Industry Leader, Roche Diagnostics, to develop Diabetes Management tool -a First for Disease Management Company -
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Diabetes AssistantSM Program is currently in development and pending FDA approval.
Irvine, Calif. (March 19, 2002) - LifeMasters® Supported SelfCareSM, Inc., a leading provider of interactive disease management services, today announced that Roche Diagnostics, a world leader in glucose monitoring has signed an agreement for development of a new Web-based Diabetes management tool called Diabetes AssistantSM Program.
This exciting new tool provides a free Web-based service that helps patients and physicians manage the chronic illness. Patients with diabetes can use Roche's Diabetes AssistantSM Program to monitor, track and benchmark their blood glucose levels. The Web-based service also provides immediate access to longitudinal data for patients and physicians, assisting healthcare providers in the maintenance of effective disease management regimens.
"Our customers have traditionally been managed care organizations and other payers, so it is gratifying to see that the strength of our technology and expertise is attractive to other partners like Roche Diagnostics who certainly is the clear industry leader for Diabetes glucose monitoring," said Christobel E. Selecky, CEO of LifeMasters. "Roche Diagnostics has been a great partner as our visions are very complementary. Roche Diagnostics' dedication to easing the burden of living with Diabetes parallels our own commitment to improving clinical outcomes for patients and providing decision support for physicians."
LifeMasters' cutting-edge technology translates blood glucose data and information into easy-to-read graphs and charts that can be manipulated and transformed by physicians to enhance patient care and compliance. Patients begin by setting health maintenance goals for blood sugar levels, diet, exercise and other factors with input from their health care provider. Readings can be entered manually or by uploading data directly into the system. LifeMasters base technology was used as the platform for delivering the service, but a unique user interface and integration of Roche specific features were added to the site to meet Roche's specifications.
Diabetes AssistantSM Program is planned to be available in the second quarter of 2002, and accessible on the Accu-Chek.com Website (www.accu-chek.com).
